| A weekend paddling over on the West Coast, including the Haupiri East branch. Only just made it over Arthur's Pass in the snow and ice (it's supposed to be November!) For the Haupiri, walk from the roadend just beyond the Gloriavale Christian place, there's a DoC track all the way to Elizabeth hut, which is mostly easy going. A few bouldery grade 4-4+ rapids, but not really enough to justify the walk at that flow. 20cm below the concrete ledge on the main road bridge upstream stantion was a bit too low--there's a lot less water at the top.
